Overview
Good Samaritan Hospital opened a $43 million addition, The Samaritan Pavilion, housing Emergency on the first floor and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Surgery Suites on the third floor. (The second floor will be reserved for future expansion.)
Exterior
The building is three-story, 120,000 square foot addition to the Good Samaritan campus on Philadelphia Drive. The exterior of bricks and reflective glass compliment the adjacent building and the surrounding neighborhood.
Emergency Facts
- The new facility features a covered portico for patient drop off and ample parking near the entrance.
- A new rooftop helipad has a dedicated elevator that gives direct access to the Emergency and Surgery Suites.
- The waiting area is divided into areas with the courtyard. Families can cluster in these areas for privacy and comfort.
- All 52 rooms are private and have both a door and privacy curtain.
- Each treatment room has a television and telephone.
- Four resuscitation rooms are dedicated to treating patients in critical condition due to illness.
- Four psychiatric seclusion rooms are available to isolate patients who need a quiet environment.
- The new space is next to two CT (computed tomography) scanners and a general x-ray room.
- Emergency Medical Squad (EMS) members can write their reports in a dedicated EMS room.
Intensive Care Unit
- The ICU's large waiting room is divided into smaller areas for family privacy.
- The new ICU has 29 private rooms versus 22 in the former facility.
- ICU rooms are large (15'x15') with a window, privacy curtain and breakaway door for quick access in emergencies.
- The ICU's four large nursing stations are designed so that every patient can be seen from one of the stations.
- The ICU has its own satellite pharmacy, arterial blood gas lab and respiratory area located on the same floor for rapid turn around.
Surgery Suites
- The total number of surgery suites will expand from 12 to 14.
- Two new surgery suites will open along with the ETC and the ICU.
- Five of the existing surgery suites will be renovated at a later date.
